The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the establishment of a new steel plant in Sunnapurallapalle village, located in the YSR Kadapa district. This initiative, proposed by the JSW Group, marks a significant investment aimed at boosting local employment and economic growth. The project will be developed in two phases, with the first phase expected to begin production by April 2029.

The first phase of the steel plant will entail an investment of ₹4,500 crore and is projected to create approximately 2,500 jobs. In the second phase, an additional investment of ₹11,850 crore is planned, bringing the total investment for the project to ₹16,350 crore. To support this initiative, the state government has allocated 1,100 acres of land to JSW at a concessional rate of ₹5 lakh per acre.

Project Timeline and Construction Milestones

According to government directives, construction for the first phase must commence by January 2026 and is scheduled for completion by April 2026. This timeline is critical as the state aims to ramp up production capabilities by April 2029. Following the completion of the first phase, the second phase is slated to begin construction in January 2031, with production operations targeted to start by April 2034.

The establishment of the steel plant is anticipated to have a substantial impact on the local economy by providing job opportunities and stimulating ancillary industries. This project aligns with the government’s broader strategy to enhance industrial development in the region, fostering growth and sustainability.

Officials from the Andhra Pradesh government expressed optimism about the project, highlighting its potential to attract further investment in the area. The JSW Group, known for its extensive experience in the steel sector, is expected to leverage its expertise to ensure the project’s successful implementation.

As the project progresses, stakeholders will closely monitor the developments, particularly the adherence to the construction timeline and the anticipated economic benefits for the YSR Kadapa district and beyond.
