A 22-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged role in an armed robbery that involved jewellery valued at over ₹50 lakh in Delhi’s Subhash Place. The suspect, identified as Shivam, was apprehended following a police investigation into the incident, which occurred on June 12, 2023.

According to police officials, Shivam had previously worked as an air conditioning repair technician and later at a garment shop before becoming involved in criminal activities. His arrest marks a significant development in the case, as three other individuals—Jitender, Vijay Kumar, and Vishal Sain—had already been taken into custody in connection with the robbery.

The robbery unfolded in an upscale area when three armed assailants attacked a jewellery salesman. The victim suffered stab wounds and was robbed of gold and silver ornaments worth more than ₹50 lakh. Following the incident, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation commenced.

Shivam had been evading capture until police received a tip-off regarding his location in Agra. Upon his arrest, officers conducted a thorough interrogation, during which Shivam disclosed that financial struggles following his father’s death led him to commit the crime.

A police officer stated, “After struggling with low-paying jobs—including working as an AC technician and later at a clothing store in Rohini—he was lured into crime by his neighbour, Kayam. Tempted by promises of quick money and a lavish lifestyle, he joined Kayam and Jitender in planning and executing the robbery.”

During his confession, Shivam admitted to participating in the attack on the salesman before fleeing with the stolen jewellery. Notably, the officer mentioned that Shivam had only completed up to Class 10 and had no prior criminal record.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify other possible accomplices and recover the stolen items. Police are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and bringing all involved in this crime to account.

Astronomer CEO Andy Byron Resigns Following Coldplay Concert Incident

editorial

Published

Andy Byron, the CEO of the US-based tech firm Astronomer, has resigned following a controversial incident that occurred during a Coldplay concert in Boston on July 20, 2023. A video capturing Byron in an intimate moment with a female colleague went viral, leading to significant backlash on social media and prompting a formal investigation by the company.

The incident took place during the concert’s “Kiss Cam” segment, where Byron was seen embracing Kristin Cabot, the head of human resources at Astronomer. The situation became uncomfortable as the couple abruptly separated when they realized they were being filmed. Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, added to the awkwardness by jokingly suggesting the pair was “either too shy or having an affair.” This comment intensified speculation, especially given that both Byron and Cabot are reportedly married to other individuals.

In a statement posted on LinkedIn, Astronomer admitted that “standards were not met” and reaffirmed its commitment to professional conduct and accountability. The company announced that Byron had submitted his resignation, which was accepted by the Board of Directors. While the search for a new CEO begins, co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy will serve as interim CEO.

The controversy escalated when Astronomer confirmed that it had placed Byron on leave the day before his resignation to conduct a formal investigation into the matter. Following the incident, Byron’s wife, Megan Kerrigan, reportedly removed his surname from her Facebook profile before deactivating her account entirely, indicating the personal fallout from the public scrutiny.

In a bid to clarify the situation, Astronomer issued a statement confirming that another woman seen in the video was not an employee of the company. Early reports had incorrectly identified her as Alyssa Stoddard, Astronomer’s Senior Director of People. The company confirmed, “Alyssa Stoddard was not at the event and no other employees were in the video.”

While acknowledging the sudden global attention, Astronomer emphasized that its core mission remains unchanged. “While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not,” the statement concluded. Known for its pioneering work in the DataOps space, the company is focused on addressing complex challenges in data and artificial intelligence.

The incident serves as a reminder of the potential impacts of personal conduct in professional settings, particularly in an era where social media can amplify private moments to a global audience. The outcomes of the internal investigation and the future leadership of Astronomer will be closely watched as the company navigates this challenging period.
