Three Women Writers from Mysuru Honored with State Awards

Three accomplished women writers from Mysuru have been selected for the esteemed Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha State-level Endowment Awards for 2025. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in April. This recognition highlights the contributions of these writers to the literary landscape of the region.

Suchitra Hegde has received the Nagarathna Chandrashekar Endowment Award in the category of Literary Essay for her work titled ‘Minchu Hulada Daari’. Meanwhile, Kusuma Ayarahalli has been honored with the Lakshmidevamma Award for Story Writing for her narrative ‘Kapile Kanda Kathegalu’. Meena Mysore has been awarded the Gunasagari Nagaraj Award for her notable contributions to Children’s Literature with her piece ‘Sooryana Sere’.

Accomplished Backgrounds

Suchitra Hegde, originally from Kumta taluk in Uttara Kannada, has established herself in Mysuru. She has previously received several accolades, including the State-level ‘Amma’ award for her travelogue ‘Jagava Suttuva Maaye’, reflecting her diverse literary talents and commitment to storytelling.

Kusuma Ayarahalli has roots in Ayarahalli, located near Mysuru. She began her career in media through her involvement with Akashvani, where she honed her skills in dialogue and scriptwriting. Her work with renowned directors such as Girish Kasaravalli and T.N. Seetharam has further solidified her reputation in the creative industry. Currently, she is contributing her talents to Parisara Balaga.

Meena Mysore is a distinguished government officer with an impressive career in journalism. She has served as the News Editor of Chandana and as a Senior Editor for Yojana. Her collaborations with theatre icons like B.V. Karanth and U.R. Ananthamurthy showcase her versatility as a writer, encompassing travelogues, poetry, children’s plays, and translations.

This recognition of Suchitra Hegde, Kusuma Ayarahalli, and Meena Mysore reflects a growing appreciation for women’s contributions to literature and the arts in Karnataka. Their achievements not only inspire future generations of writers but also enrich the cultural tapestry of the region.
