West Indies cricketer Rovman Powell has etched his name in the record books by becoming the first player from his nation to hit 150 sixes in T20 International matches. The milestone was achieved during Match 52 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 against India on Sunday. Powell scored an unbeaten 34 runs off 19 balls, including two sixes, contributing significantly to West Indies’ total of 196 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Powell’s achievement came at a crucial moment in the match. The West Indies were struggling at 119 for 4 when he partnered with Jason Holder. Together, they formed an impressive unbeaten partnership of 76 runs from 35 balls, showcasing their power-hitting skills. Powell’s innings featured three fours in addition to his two sixes, resulting in a strike rate of 178.95.

With this achievement, Powell has surpassed fellow West Indies player Nicholas Pooran, who previously held the record with 149 sixes in 106 matches. Pooran, who has retired from international cricket, is still the highest run-scorer for the West Indies in T20Is, amassing 2,275 runs in his career.

As of now, Powell’s T20I statistics reflect his consistent performance. In 117 T20Is (103 innings), he has accumulated 2,261 runs at an average of 25.98 and a strike rate of 141.84. In the broader context of T20 cricket, he has hit 394 sixes in 328 matches (295 innings), placing him on the cusp of reaching the significant milestone of 400 sixes.

The match itself saw the Indian team clinch victory, reaching 199 for 5 in response to West Indies’ score. Notably, Sanju Samson played a pivotal role for India, leading them to the semi-finals of the tournament with a superb performance.

As Powell continues to excel, his journey in T20 cricket remains one to watch. With his sights set on 6,000 T20 runs, where he currently stands at 5,944 runs, the cricketing world eagerly anticipates his next milestones.
