Bihar Tragedy: Chirag Paswan Promises Justice for Student’s Death
The tragic suicide of a Class 10 student in Bihar has prompted Union Minister Chirag Paswan to vow justice and address concerns regarding the incident. The student, who was denied entry to her examination for arriving late, reportedly took her own life soon after. This incident has drawn significant criticism from the opposition, particularly from Tejashwi Yadav, who accused the state government of administrative insensitivity and a decline in law and order.
Speaking to the media on March 15, 2024, Paswan expressed deep concern over the circumstances surrounding the student’s death, calling it a serious issue for the government. He recognized the right of the opposition to engage in political discourse but emphasized the government’s commitment to justice and preventive measures.
“Any incident that occurs is a matter of concern,” Paswan remarked. “Even a single incident is a cause for concern for us. We are ensuring that no guilty person escapes.” He noted that the Bihar Home Minister has directed local authorities to increase vigilance in schools to avoid such tragedies in the future.
Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition, responded swiftly, leading protests outside the Bihar Assembly during the budget session. He criticized the government for what he termed a deterioration in law and order and lapses in the management of public examinations. The RJD leader highlighted the heartbreaking situation of the student, who was reportedly delayed by traffic congestion and arrived just ten minutes after the reporting time, only to be refused entry despite her pleas to the officials.
Yadav urged the government to adopt a more humanitarian approach, advocating for policies that would allow marginally late students to enter their exams. “No rule can be more valuable than a child’s life,” he stated emphatically. He further alleged that crime rates, including extortion and sexual assault, are on the rise, leaving ordinary citizens living in fear. Yadav criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, claiming he has lost control by delegating the Home Department to the BJP.
The incident has sparked calls for reform in examination rules. In response, Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar has promised to review the situation and consider implementing more flexible policies for late students. The opposition, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), continues to demand accountability from the government, highlighting the need for improvements in traffic management and examination coordination to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As the situation evolves, the government faces increasing pressure to address these critical issues and restore public confidence in the educational system and law enforcement in Bihar.
