Four Professors Honored with Language Awards on Mother Language Day

Hyderabad will celebrate International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2026, with the presentation of the Language Proficiency Excellence Awards. Four distinguished professors will be recognized for their contributions to language scholarship and education during a ceremony at the Indira Priyadarshini Government Degree College for Women in Nampally.

The recipients include Prof. Pillalamarri Ramulu, Head of the Department of Telugu at the University of Hyderabad; Prof. Chandra Mukherjee, principal of the Indira Priyadarshini Government Degree College for Women, recognized for her work in Hindi; Prof. Sonba Salve, Dean of the School of Literary Studies at the English and Foreign Languages University for his contributions to English; and Prof. Mosarrat Jahan, Head of the Department of Urdu at Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

The awards aim to honor those who have made significant strides in promoting and teaching languages. Raj Narayan Mudiraj, the state president of the Telangana Intellectuals Forum, emphasized the importance of recognizing educators who foster linguistic diversity and cultural heritage.

The awards ceremony will be presided over by Prof. V. Balakista Reddy, chairman of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education. The event will also welcome notable educationists, including Komatireddy Gopal Reddy and Prem Chand Munot Jain, further highlighting the community’s commitment to language education.

These awards not only celebrate individual achievements but also underscore the broader significance of preserving and promoting mother languages across regions. By honoring these four professors, the event serves as a reminder of the enduring value of linguistic diversity in education and society.
