Taapsee Pannu Condemns Death of NEET Aspirant After Assault
The tragic death of a NEET aspirant in Patna, who was allegedly sexually assaulted, has drawn significant attention and condemnation from actress Taapsee Pannu. The student, originally from Jehanabad, was discovered unconscious in her hostel room at Shambhu Girls’ hostel on January 6, 2024, and succumbed to her injuries on January 11, 2024, after spending several days in a coma.
Pannu, currently promoting her upcoming film titled Assi, which focuses on sexual violence against women, expressed her sorrow over the incident. Speaking to news agency ANI, she highlighted the alarming frequency of such cases across India. “There would have been 79 more such cases on that day, not just here but across the nation. I feel very sad,” she stated. Pannu noted that, on average, approximately 80 incidents of sexual violence occur daily in the country, emphasizing the need for society to recognize and respond to these tragedies with urgency.
The investigation into the NEET aspirant’s death is currently being led by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Initial reports indicate that traces of human sperm were found on an undergarment believed to have been worn by the victim. However, police have clarified that medical professionals have not confirmed any sexual or penetrative assault as of now. The forensic examination is ongoing, with a DNA profile being prepared to potentially match the evidence with arrested suspects.
Pannu’s comments shed light on a disturbing trend in India, where incidents of sexual violence have become alarmingly common. She urged society to maintain empathy and outrage for all victims, stating, “The grief, pain, and anger we feel when we hear about one particular case — we should feel the same when we hear about the others too.” She expressed frustration over the normalization of such violence, calling for a collective response to combat the issue.
The case has sparked widespread discussion about the safety of women and girls in India. Pannu’s remarks resonate with many who advocate for a cultural shift towards prioritizing women’s safety and addressing the systemic issues that allow such violence to persist. As the investigation continues, the hope remains that justice will be served and that society can work towards preventing further tragedies.
