France’s Pierre Crinon is out of the men’s Olympic ice hockey tournament following a game misconduct penalty during his team’s final group match against Canada. The French Ice Hockey Federation announced the suspension on Monday, stating that Crinon would not participate in any further games after a physical altercation with Canadian player Tom Wilson.

The incident occurred seven minutes before the end of the match, which France lost decisively by a score of 10-2. Both players were penalized with a two-minute minor for roughing, as well as a 25-minute fighting penalty, which is prohibited in Olympic play.

Following the game, Crinon was interviewed by Pierre-Yves Gerbeau, president of the French Ice Hockey Federation (FFHG) and deputy chef de mission of the French delegation. While the International Ice Hockey Federation did not impose any additional sanctions on either player, the FFHG expressed dissatisfaction with Crinon’s conduct after leaving the rink.

FFHG stated, “The provocative behaviour of Pierre Crinon when he left the ice, even though he had just been excluded from the match for a fight, constitutes a clear violation of the Olympic spirit and also undermines the values of our sport.” Consequently, the decision was made, in full agreement with the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, to bar him from participating in upcoming matches.

France finished at the bottom of Group A with zero points and will now face Germany in the playoff round on February 7, 2026. The winner of this match will advance to the quarter-finals against Slovakia.

The suspension highlights the strict adherence to Olympic values and sportsmanship, reinforcing the importance of maintaining discipline within the competition.
