PM Modi Celebrates Hardeep Singh Puri’s Contributions to Energy Sector
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm birthday wishes on February 15, 2024, to Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri. In a message shared on social media platform X, Modi praised Puri’s significant contributions to enhancing India’s self-reliance in the petroleum and natural gas sectors.
“Best wishes to Union Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri Ji on his birthday. His efforts towards ensuring India is self-reliant in the petroleum and natural gas sectors are commendable. Praying for his long life and good health,” Modi stated.
Puri’s role in advancing India’s energy independence received further recognition from Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, who also took to X to convey his heartfelt greetings. Margherita acknowledged Puri’s dedicated work in fortifying the nation’s journey toward energy self-sufficiency. “Warm birthday greetings to Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri Ji. Your committed efforts continue to strengthen Bharat’s journey towards self-reliance in the petroleum and natural gas sectors. May Maa Kamakhya bless you with good health, strength, and continued dedication in the service of the nation,” he wrote.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also joined in the celebrations, offering his birthday wishes and expressing hope for Puri’s long-lasting service to the nation. “Honourable Union Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri ji, heartfelt birthday congratulations and best wishes. I pray to Devadhidev Mahadev that He may bless you with excellent health, long life, and boundless energy for the service of the nation,” Yadav remarked on X.
Background of Hardeep Singh Puri
Hardeep Singh Puri was born on February 15, 1952, in New Delhi, to a refugee family. His early life was shaped by the challenges faced by his parents, Sardar Bhagat Singh Puri and Sardarni Kundan Puri, who rebuilt their lives after the partition. Puri’s career spans significant roles in both diplomacy and public service.
He entered the Union Council of Ministers in September 2017, initially serving as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs. By May 2019, he expanded his responsibilities to include Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry. In July 2021, he was appointed as a Union Minister overseeing the Ministries of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Puri’s experience in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), which he joined in 1974, includes serving as India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in both Geneva and New York. His diplomatic assignments also took him to Indian missions in Tokyo and Colombo.

As of July 2024, Puri continues to serve as the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, a role that places him at the forefront of India’s energy strategy.
