Tragic Loss: 22-Year-Old Dies from PUBG Addiction in India
A 22-year-old man from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has died due to complications linked to his addiction to the popular mobile game PUBG (Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds). The incident occurred on February 9, 2026, following a series of alarming events highlighting the dangers of mobile gaming addiction among youth in India.
Mohammad Kaif, who had reportedly been engrossed in gaming for several months, was found unresponsive in his room by family members late on the evening of February 7. His relatives stated that Kaif had been playing the game with headphones when he suddenly lost consciousness. Despite immediate efforts to revive him, his blood pressure had soared to critical levels, exceeding 300.
Family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he fought for his life for two days before succumbing to what doctors confirmed was a brain hemorrhage triggered by the prolonged stress and excitement associated with intense gaming sessions.
This tragic incident follows closely on the heels of another heartbreaking case in Ghaziabad, where three young sisters—16-year-old Nishika, 14-year-old Prachi, and 12-year-old Pakhi—lost their lives after allegedly jumping from a ninth-floor balcony. Their actions were reportedly linked to an addiction to a mobile phone game known as the “Korean Love game.”
Increasing Concerns Over Mobile Gaming Addiction
The deaths of Kaif and the three sisters underscore a disturbing trend in India, where the allure of mobile games has increasingly captured the attention of young people. Experts warn that games like PUBG, known for their immersive environments and competitive gameplay, can lead to excessive playing habits.
Kaif’s family had previously expressed concern over his gaming habits, urging him to limit the hours spent playing. Tragically, these pleas went unheeded as the grip of addiction proved too powerful. The emotional toll of these incidents raises significant questions about the impact of mobile gaming on mental health and the necessity for increased awareness and preventive measures.
Medical professionals emphasize the importance of recognizing the signs of gaming addiction, which can include neglect of personal responsibilities, social isolation, and physical health issues. The risks associated with prolonged gaming—such as elevated blood pressure and heightened stress levels—pose serious health threats, particularly to the younger demographic.
Call for Action and Awareness
As news of these tragedies spreads, there is an urgent call for parents, educators, and mental health professionals to engage in conversations about the risks of mobile gaming. Raising awareness about healthy gaming habits may help prevent further loss of life and promote a balanced approach to technology use among youth.
The government and relevant authorities may also need to consider implementing guidelines or regulations on gaming to help manage screen time and encourage healthier lifestyles.
The loss of young lives due to gaming addiction serves as a sobering reminder of the darker side of technology’s influence on the younger generation. As the gaming industry continues to grow, it is crucial for society to address these challenges head-on to protect the well-being of future generations.
