Bihar Voter List Revision Excludes 35.6 Lakh Names as Deadline Approaches

The ongoing Special Intensive Revision process by the Election Commission (EC) has led to the removal of over 35.6 lakh names from the voter list in Bihar. This significant revision comes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, with the EC stating that it has surpassed 88% of the total voting population in the state as of today. The revision aims to ensure the accuracy of the voter list by filtering out invalid entries.
As part of this extensive exercise, the EC reported that approximately 12.55 lakh individuals, or 1.59% of registered voters, have been identified as deceased. Additionally, around 17.37 lakh voters, accounting for 2.2%, have permanently moved out of the state, while 5.76 lakh entries were flagged as duplicates, representing 0.73% of the total. These findings underscore the need for regular updates to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
Efforts to Enhance Voter Participation
The EC has emphasized that 6.60 crore voters, or 83.66% of the estimated 7.90 crore registered voters, have already submitted their enumeration forms. The commission noted that 88.18% of electors have either submitted their forms, are deceased, or have relocated. This leaves only 11.82% of electors yet to complete their submissions, many of whom have requested additional time to do so.
To facilitate this process, the EC has conducted two rounds of door-to-door visits by booth level officers (BLOs). A third round is set to commence shortly, involving nearly 100,000 BLOs. Additionally, political parties have appointed around 1.5 lakh booth level agents to assist voters in completing their forms, with each agent capable of certifying up to 50 forms per day.
To ensure that all eligible urban voters are included, special camps are being established in all 5,683 wards across 261 urban local bodies in Bihar. These initiatives aim to reach voters who have temporarily migrated out of the state, with the EC employing advertisements and direct outreach to encourage timely submissions.
Technological Advancements in Voter Registration
The newly launched ECINet platform is playing a crucial role in accelerating the voter registration process. The system has facilitated the uploading of over 5.74 crore enumeration forms by the evening of Monday. The document review module within ECINet has streamlined the verification of voter eligibility by electoral officials.
The EC has highlighted that this integrated platform, designed to replace 40 previous applications, enhances efficiency across all aspects of the Bihar Special Intensive Revision exercise. Voters can complete their forms online or through mobile devices via the ECINet App, allowing for a more accessible registration process. Additionally, electors can verify their names against the previous voter list from 2003 and connect directly with election officials for assistance.
As the deadline for submissions approaches, the commission urges all eligible voters to participate actively in this vital process, ensuring their voices are heard in the upcoming elections. The draft voter list is set to be published on August 1, 2023, marking a critical milestone in the electoral preparations for Bihar.

Congress Leader Assaulted by BRS Followers During Heated Dispute

A confrontation in Balkonda, Telangana, escalated on July 17, 2025, when N Devender Reddy, the leader of the Congress party’s NRI cell, was allegedly attacked by supporters of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy. The incident occurred as Reddy visited the MLA’s residence to refute claims that the Congress government had failed to assist families of Gulf emigrants from Telangana.
Footage from the scene captured the moment Reddy was pursued and assaulted by a group of men until police intervened to protect him. Following the incident, Reddy condemned the attack, accusing the BRS leader of orchestrating the violence. “The attack was meant to silence the truth about the goondaism sanctioned by Vemula Prashanth Reddy, who held the roads and buildings portfolio during the BRS government,” he stated.
Background of the Incident
The altercation followed remarks made by Prashanth Reddy on July 16, where he criticized the Congress government for not taking action to support families affected by Gulf migration. In response, Devender Reddy asserted that the BRS MLA had employed “300 goondas” to intimidate his party members. “Even if he hires 3,000 goondas, he won’t be able to silence us,” he claimed.
Reddy also highlighted that his team met with Prashanth Reddy’s younger brother, presenting evidence that included data on families of 18 Gulf emigrants. He noted that a total compensation of Rs 5 lakh was provided for each life lost in Gulf countries, with 55 families in the erstwhile Nizamabad district receiving assistance. Reddy emphasized that this information demonstrated the state government’s commitment to aiding affected families.
Aftermath and Ongoing Tensions
The attack has intensified tensions between the Congress and BRS parties in the region. Following the incident, Congress leaders attempted to approach Prashanth Reddy’s residence, leading to a heavy police presence and subsequent clashes between party activists. Reports indicate that protests by BRS leaders also took place in response to the growing unrest.
As investigations continue, the situation remains volatile, with both sides exchanging accusations. Reddy maintains that the attack was an effort to suppress the truth regarding the government’s actions to support Gulf emigrants, urging for transparency and accountability.
The Hyderabad police have yet to report any arrests related to the incident, but they have identified multiple suspects involved in the altercation. This incident highlights the escalating political tensions in Telangana as the Congress party seeks to challenge the BRS’s narratives and actions.

Abandoned Doberman Finds New Home After Journey to Prague

A three-year-old Doberman, abandoned by its owner in Chromepet, India, has successfully relocated to a new home in the Czech Republic. The dog, named Pattu, was rescued and brought to the Besant Memorial Animal Dispensary (BMAD) in November 2022, where he received critical veterinary care.
Upon arrival at BMAD, Pattu faced severe health challenges, including malnourishment and difficulty walking. Shravan Krishnan, a representative from BMAD, noted that the dog required extensive treatment and physiotherapy. “We named him Pattu. After five months of treatment and physiotherapy training, he regained health. The dog is now walking normally,” Krishnan explained.
As Pattu’s health improved, BMAD initiated efforts to find him a permanent home. The organization posted his details online, attracting numerous inquiries from potential adopters across India. Ultimately, the search led to Pavilina Buskova, a resident of the Czech Republic, who expressed immediate interest in adopting Pattu.
The adoption process involved multiple rounds of screening to ensure a suitable match for the dog. Following the approval, Pattu was transferred to a private shelter in preparation for his journey. In June 2023, he was transported in a specially designed wooden crate that allowed for aeration, ensuring his comfort during the flight.
After completing the necessary customs formalities, Pattu embarked on his journey to Europe. He has since settled into his new home with Buskova, marking a significant turnaround from his previous circumstances.
BMAD’s successful outreach efforts through social media have not only changed Pattu’s life but also highlighted the importance of animal welfare and adoption initiatives. The organization’s commitment to rehabilitating animals has paved the way for Pattu’s new beginning, providing hope for other abandoned pets in need.

Palaniswami Declares AIADMK Will Lead Tamil Nadu, Snubs BJP Coalition

In a clear indication of his intentions, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the leader of the AIADMK, announced that his party will not enter into a coalition government in Tamil Nadu. This declaration comes as the state prepares for assembly elections scheduled for 2024. Palaniswami emphasized that the AIADMK will emerge as the single largest party, effectively sidelining the BJP in any future governance structure.
Palaniswami’s recent statements have sparked confusion regarding the dynamics within the NDA (National Democratic Alliance). Over the past months, he has exhibited inconsistencies in his messaging about the alliance’s stability. While he has occasionally asserted that the NDA remains strong in Tamil Nadu, stating that attempts to create divisions will fail, he has also made it clear that decisions regarding the alliance will rest solely with him.
“There will be no coalition government in Tamil Nadu. The AIADMK will become the single largest party,” Palaniswami asserted during an interview with News18. He further extended an invitation to other parties, specifically the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor Vijay, to join forces against the ruling DMK. His rhetoric suggests a strategic positioning aimed at consolidating support ahead of the elections.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has previously stated that a coalition government would be formed if the NDA secures victory in Tamil Nadu. Palaniswami, however, contested this assertion, reiterating that he is the one in charge of the alliance. “He says our alliance will form the government. I have already made it clear – who is heading this alliance? So it’s my decision, right?” he stated, underscoring his leadership role.
In his comments, Palaniswami reiterated that the AIADMK will lead the NDA, should the alliance win the elections. He expressed confidence in the stability of the current coalition, insisting that efforts to sow discord among its members will not succeed. “No attempts to create a rift in the alliance will succeed. This is a stable alliance,” he added.
The AIADMK leader also implied that the ruling DMK’s criticisms of his party’s alliance are rooted in their own apprehensions. He suggested that the DMK did not foresee AIADMK’s potential to forge new alliances and is thus reacting with fear to their political maneuvering.
As the election date approaches, the political landscape in Tamil Nadu is becoming increasingly dynamic. Palaniswami’s firm stance on leadership and coalition strategy may significantly shape the electoral outcomes. The evolving relationship between the AIADMK and BJP, as well as the party’s approach towards potential alliances, will be crucial in determining their success in the upcoming elections.
