The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) celebrated the 77th Republic Day on January 26, 2026, with vibrant ceremonies marked by patriotic displays and community participation. The festivities commenced at 07:30 with Municipal Commissioner Abhinav Goyal unfurling the national flag, surrounded by key municipal officials, including City Engineer Anita Pardeshi and additional municipal commissioners.

A ceremonial salute followed, featuring personnel from the local fire brigade, security forces, and police, who participated in a march-past to honor the flag. The event also recognized the contributions of local sanitation workers; twelve individuals from the Solid Waste Management Department received certificates of appreciation and mementoes for their dedicated service.

At the old Dombivli East ward office, Additional Municipal Commissioner Yogesh Godse also raised the national flag, joined by former corporator Mandar Halbe and municipal staff. Following the flag hoisting, Commissioner Goyal paid floral tributes at the memorial of Captain Vinaykumar Sachan and the Prerana War Memorial, attended by civic officials, citizens, and elected representatives.

In a move to inspire civic responsibility, Goyal also unfurled a 150-foot-tall national flag at Dattnagar Chowk in Dombivli East. He urged citizens to uphold the values enshrined in the constitution. MLA Rajesh More extended Republic Day greetings, and the celebrations attracted a large gathering of community members.

Schools Across Kalyan-Dombivali Join Republic Day Celebrations

The Republic Day celebrations extended beyond municipal headquarters, reaching all 524 schools operated by the KDMC. Students participated in a wide array of patriotic programs, including synchronised drills performed to stirring music, designed to instill national pride.

As directed by a circular from the KDMC Education Department issued on December 8, 2025, schools across various mediums and managements took part in the festivities. Students engaged in coordinated musical drills, delivering speeches and performing group songs that celebrated the nation.

Mass drills were organised at both the Cluster Resource Centre (CRC) and school levels, where students used colourful flags, dumbbells, ghungroo sticks, and lezim to create visually captivating performances. The event also featured the recognition of winners from various sports competitions held at the CRC level, with prizes and certificates awarded during the celebrations.

Administrative officials from the KDMC Education Department, including Bharat Boranare, the Administrative Officer, and Vijay Sarkate, the Education Officer, visited multiple schools to assess the events. They offered congratulations to school authorities, teachers, and students, commending the successful execution of the drills and related activities.

Overall, the Republic Day 2026 celebrations in Kalyan-Dombivali highlighted a strong sense of community spirit and national pride, engaging citizens and students alike in honoring the country’s heritage and values.
