Rohtak and Mahendragarh Universities Forge Alliance for Health Research
Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR) and the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendragarh, have formalized a partnership aimed at enhancing academic and research collaboration focused on human health. The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 15, 2024, to integrate their research efforts in addressing significant public health challenges.
The primary goal of this collaboration is to combine basic, translational, and clinical research to combat diseases that impact public health. Dr HK Aggarwal, Vice-Chancellor of UHSR, emphasized the partnership’s potential to develop new diagnostics, therapeutic interventions, and preventive strategies that will ultimately benefit communities and advance the field of medical science.
Joint Research Initiatives and Training Programs
Under the agreement, both universities will promote high-quality research focusing on communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as female reproductive health disorders. This initiative will provide a platform for joint studies that leverage integrated expertise and resources to address critical medical issues.
The MoU outlines a comprehensive framework for interdisciplinary research across various fields, including modern biotechnology, biological sciences, clinical medicine, and molecular medicine. According to Dr Aggarwal, the collaboration will facilitate the exchange of research materials, expertise, and information, enhancing both institutions’ capabilities to develop effective tools for disease prevention and treatment.
In addition to research collaboration, the MoU includes provisions for joint training programs, fellowships, and faculty and student exchange visits. These initiatives are designed to strengthen capacity building and foster scientific dialogue through symposia, conferences, academic meetings, and workshops.
Focus on Innovative Health Solutions
The partnership is set to benefit students, researchers, and faculty members by granting access to shared expertise, clinical data, and research infrastructure. Dr Aggarwal highlighted that a significant focus of their research will be on bone tuberculosis. The collaboration will involve collecting bone samples from patients in Rohtak and sending them to CUH, where advanced diagnostic kits will enable rapid testing to determine if a patient has bone TB within a single day.
Similarly, women suspected of having endometriosis will have their blood samples sent to Mahendragarh for testing, facilitating timely diagnosis and treatment that can prevent disease progression. The swift turnaround for these tests exemplifies the commitment to improving patient care through collaborative research.
Dr Vikas Dhingra from CUH mentioned that their research also explores biomedical applications aimed at eliminating plastic waste using fungi and bacteria, further illustrating the innovative potential of this partnership.
Both universities anticipate that this collaboration will significantly enhance their research capabilities, ultimately contributing to advancements in public health and medical science. The alliance stands as a promising step toward addressing urgent health challenges through combined expertise and resources.
