Karan Johar and Neeraj Ghaywan Celebrate Homebound’s Journey
The nominations for the 98th Oscars were announced on March 14, 2026, revealing that Homebound did not secure a nomination in the International Feature Film category. Despite this setback, both filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan and producer Karan Johar expressed their admiration for one another, emphasizing the positive journey they shared throughout the film’s production.
In a heartfelt message on his Instagram account, Johar praised Ghaywan’s vision, stating, “Proud!!!! Love you neeraj.ghaywan for allowing us to bask in your light!” Ghaywan quickly reciprocated, thanking Johar for his unwavering support, saying, “You have been an absolute rock. Couldn’t have come this far without you. Love you!”
While Homebound was previously recognized as a strong contender, it ultimately did not make the final list of nominees. The film was initially shortlisted alongside entries from various countries including Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Iraq, Japan, and South Korea, among others.
Reactions to the Snub
Actor Vishal Jethwa, who stars in the film, shared his thoughts on the film’s omission from the final nominations. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he expressed pride in being shortlisted among the final 15 films, calling it an honour to represent India on such a prestigious platform. “Seeing Homebound travel this far has been incredibly special. I will forever be grateful to have been part of this film,” he stated.
Jethwa acknowledged that while they had hoped for a nomination, the film’s journey and the positive reception from audiences were achievements in themselves. “Even though we say that we should not expect anything, when we got this far, there were some expectations,” he reflected. “No matter how many people saw the film, they liked it and called it a strong story.”
About Homebound
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound follows the lives of childhood friends Shoaib, played by Ishaan Khatter, and Chandan, portrayed by Jethwa, as they pursue their dream of joining the police force. The film is produced by Johar, along with Adar Poonawalla and Apoorva Mehta, with co-production from Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier. Notably, renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese and Pravin Khairnar served as executive producers.
While the absence of a nomination may be disappointing for the team, the journey of Homebound continues to resonate with audiences and reflects the dedication and talent of everyone involved. The film’s impact on both local and international audiences highlights the importance of storytelling that transcends borders.
