Production Begins for ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’ Sequel
The production of the sequel to the popular gay romantic comedy, Red, White & Royal Blue, has officially commenced. Filmmakers announced the start of production on social media on October 2, 2023, sharing a brief video featuring the lead actors, Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez, back on set. In the sequel, titled Red, White & Royal Wedding, Galitzine and Perez will reprise their roles as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz, respectively.
The video, lasting 17 seconds, showcases the two actors in casual attire, playfully discussing their characters’ involvement in a wedding. Perez humorously notes that they are on set for the wedding of Prince Henry’s sister, Bea. Galitzine adds a light-hearted clarification, which hints at the film’s potential focus on Alex and Henry’s own wedding as well.
Creative Team Behind the Sequel
The sequel will be directed by Jamie Babbit, known for her work on the cult classic But I’m a Cheerleader and the acclaimed series Only Murders in the Building. The script for Red, White & Royal Wedding is crafted by Gemma Burgess, Matthew Lopez—who directed the first film—and Casey McQuiston, the author of the bestselling novel that inspired the franchise.
Production is being led by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Schechter Films, alongside Michael McGrath, Lopez, and Jennifer Salke of Sullivan Street Productions. The executive producers include McQuiston and Michael Constable.
Awaiting Release Date
As of now, the release date for Red, White & Royal Wedding has not been announced, leaving fans eagerly anticipating further details about this much-anticipated sequel. The original film garnered significant attention for its charming portrayal of a same-sex romance, paving the way for heightened expectations for this follow-up.
With its engaging cast and a talented creative team, the sequel promises to deliver the same warmth and humor that resonated with audiences in the first installment.
