Mukesh Singh has officially assumed the role of Director General of Police (DGP) for Ladakh, following his appointment by the Ministry of Home Affairs on January 2. Singh succeeds S D Singh Jamwal, who has been transferred to serve as the DGP of Arunachal Pradesh.

On his first day in office, Singh was honored with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Police Headquarters in Ladakh. He took the opportunity to engage with senior police officers and staff, marking the beginning of his responsibilities in the new position. Singh’s extensive background in law enforcement includes notable assignments with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and various roles within Jammu and Kashmir.

Singh’s career in policing began in the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, which was later merged into the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre after the abrogation of Article 370. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where he earned a degree in civil engineering.

His resume includes significant roles such as Additional Director General (ADG) of the ITBP, Inspector General (IG) of both the ITBP and Jammu, and IG of the Crime Branch in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, he has served as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in various districts across the region.

Singh’s appointment reflects a continuation of leadership aimed at maintaining law and order within Ladakh, a region known for its unique challenges and strategic importance. His experience and educational background position him well to address the complexities of policing in this diverse area.

As Singh embarks on this new chapter in his career, the police force in Ladakh anticipates his leadership will foster a secure environment for both residents and visitors alike.
