BAFTA 2026 Longlists Announced: ‘One Battle After Another’ Dominates
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has unveiled the longlists for the highly anticipated 2026 Film Awards, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s political thriller One Battle After Another leading the nominations. The film garnered an impressive 16 mentions, setting a strong pace for the competition. Close behind are Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, each receiving 14 nominations.
Other notable contenders include Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme with 13 nods and Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia, which received 12 mentions. The Best Film category features a diverse selection, including The Ballad of Wallis Island, Frankenstein, I Swear, and Nuremberg, among others.
Leading Performers Recognized
The longlist for Leading Actress showcases an array of talent, highlighting performances from Jessie Buckley in Hamnet, Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, and Cynthia Erivo in Wicked: For Good. Other nominees include Emma Stone (Bugonia), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), and Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love).
In the Leading Actor category, esteemed actors such as Robert Aramayo (I Swear), Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), and Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another) are among those vying for recognition. The list also features Cillian Murphy (Steve) and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia), showcasing the depth of talent in this year’s competition.
Key Categories and Upcoming Dates
The longlists extend beyond acting, with a strong showing in the Best Director category. Notable directors include Lynne Ramsay (Die My Love), Ryan Coogler (Sinners), and Kathryn Bigelow (A House of Dynamite). Adapted Screenplay nominations feature films such as 28 Years Later, Train Dreams, and Wake Up Dead Man.
The Outstanding British Film category highlights several projects, including The Ballad of Wallis Island, Hamnet, and Goodbye June. The BAFTA Film Awards serve as a significant indicator for potential Oscar contenders, further heightening the excitement surrounding this year’s nominations.
Voting for the next round to determine the final nominations will take place between January 9-20, 2026, with the nominations announcement scheduled for January 27, 2026. The awards ceremony will be hosted by Scottish actor Alan Cumming on February 22, 2026, at the prestigious Royal Festival Hall in London.
