Family Launches Zubeen Garg Trust to Honor Cultural Legacy
The family of the late singer Zubeen Garg has established the Zubeen Garg Trust to preserve and promote his artistic, social, and cultural legacy. Garima Garg, Zubeen’s wife, made the announcement on Friday, emphasizing the family’s commitment to continue the work that he held dear. This initiative comes as the family seeks justice in the ongoing investigation into Zubeen’s alleged murder.
During a press conference attended by family members and close associates, Garima expressed hope that the upcoming year would bring peace and positivity. She stated, “Zubeen dedicated his life to the people of Assam. It is now our responsibility to uphold his values and take his work forward by following the path he showed.” The trust was formed after three-and-a-half months of consultations among family, friends, and well-wishers, culminating in this significant decision.
As part of the trust’s establishment, the family plans to transfer their property in Kharghuli to serve as a center for social, cultural, and creative activities. This venue will reflect the values and passions that Zubeen held throughout his life. Garima also expressed gratitude towards Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state government for their efforts in the murder investigation, urging them to expedite the process to ensure timely justice.
Objectives and Initiatives of the Trust
According to the family, the Zubeen Garg Trust will operate through three dedicated wings. The Kalaguru Foundation will focus on socio-cultural initiatives, while Abhinaya Performing Arts, an institution previously founded by Zubeen in his sister’s name, will promote theatre and performance arts, particularly among youth.
A separate research wing will document and study Zubeen Garg’s life, creative works, and contributions to Assam’s cultural and social landscape. This includes efforts to preserve his intellectual property, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire future generations. The family emphasized that Zubeen remains deeply embedded in the hearts of the people of Assam, highlighting the importance of preserving his memory, ideals, and dreams.
The trust aims to impact various sectors, including society, culture, nature conservation, and youth welfare. It has garnered support from Zubeen’s friends from his student days, as well as members of Assam’s cultural, administrative, and media circles. Additionally, the Zubeen Fan Club, affectionately referred to by Zubeen as his “army,” has pledged its support for the initiative.
In a commitment to public health and welfare, the trust has already organized health camps in remote areas under Zubeen’s name, reflecting the singer’s dedication to community service. The comprehensive approach of the Zubeen Garg Trust not only aims to honor his legacy but also to create lasting positive change in the lives of people in Assam and beyond.
