Mangaluru Taluk Beary Sahitya Sammelana Set for January 4

The Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy will host the Mangaluru Taluk Beary Sahitya Sammelana on January 4, 2024, at Gurupura-Kaikamba. The event aims to celebrate Beary literature and culture, bringing together writers, scholars, and enthusiasts of the Beary language.

U.H. Umar, president of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, announced the details during a press conference on Friday. Notable writer Abdul Rahiman Kuttettur will preside over the gathering, which is set to commence at 10:15 a.m. with an inauguration led by U.T. Khader, the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The venue for the event is the Megha Plaza Hall.

A highlight of the sammelana will be the release of five Beary books written by local authors, including Shameema Kuttar, Haseena Malnad, N. M. Haneef Nandarabettu, Basheer Ahmed, and Hyder Ali Katipalla. These publications reflect the rich literary contributions of the Beary community and are expected to attract significant interest from attendees.

In addition to book releases, the event will feature traditional Beary performances, including Kavigosti, Duff, and Beary songs. These performances aim to showcase the cultural heritage of the Beary-speaking population. Following the morning activities, there will be a discussion centered around the president’s speech at noon, fostering dialogue among participants.

The sammelana will conclude with a theatrical performance titled “Broker Poker”, scheduled for 6:30 p.m.. This drama is anticipated to provide entertainment while highlighting contemporary issues within the Beary community.
