Haryana Establishes Hansi as Its 23rd District

The Haryana government has officially designated Hansi as the state’s 23rd district, effective from March 4, 2024. This decision, announced through a formal notification, restructures the existing administrative divisions, creating a new district that will encompass the sub-divisions of Hansi and Narnaund.

In a statement detailing this change, the government referenced its authority under the Haryana Land Revenue Act of 1887 and the Registration Act of 1908. The announcement signifies a shift in governance aimed at improving local administration and service delivery.

Haryana’s Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini, emphasized the modernization of land registration processes across the state. He noted that the entire registration process is now available online for residents in all tehsils. This digital initiative aims to reduce opportunities for corruption, allowing buyers to apply for property registration from the comfort of their homes.

To enhance accountability, tehsildars must complete registrations within a designated timeframe. If they fail to do so, they are required to provide a written explanation to the government. Unsatisfactory responses may lead to disciplinary action, with responsibility transferred to senior officials.

In a related development, the Delhi Cabinet has approved a significant reorganization of the capital’s administrative structure. The proposal will convert its 11 existing revenue districts into 13 new districts, aligning them with the boundaries of the 12 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) zones, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and the Delhi Cantonment Board.

According to a press release from the Delhi government’s Revenue Department, the restructuring will not only redefine the district boundaries but also increase the number of subdivisions from 33 to 39. Furthermore, the number of Sub-Registrar offices will rise from 22 to 39, significantly enhancing the capacity for property registration services.

The Delhi government stated that this reform aims to eliminate long-standing jurisdictional confusion between revenue districts and MCD zones. It is expected to improve the ease of living for residents by accelerating service delivery and ensuring seamless coordination across land records, property registration, civic services, and grievance redressal.

These developments in both Haryana and Delhi reflect a broader trend towards administrative efficiency and transparency, seeking to better serve the needs of local populations through improved governance frameworks.
