Delphic Council Hosts Vibrant Painting Contest for Local Students
On December 7, 2023, the Delphic Council of Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education Jammu, Surya Tapi Kids Care School, and Berger Paints India Limited, organized an engaging painting competition for students in Jammu. The event welcomed participation from eight government and fourteen private schools, highlighting the creative talents of local youth.
Competitions and Themes Spark Engagement
The painting competition showcased the artistic skills of 125 students, divided into two categories: grades 1 to 6 and grades 7 to 12. Competitors used crayon and poster colors to express their creativity. Awards were presented for the top three positions in each group, with mementos distributed to recognize their achievements.
In addition to the painting contest, a debate competition on the topic “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life” was held at the same venue. This debate, conducted in both Hindi and English, also had participants categorized into the same grade divisions. Mementos were awarded to the top three debaters as well, ensuring that all participants received certificates recognizing their involvement.
Guests and Performances Enrich the Event
Former minister and MLA Jammu North, Sham Lal Sharma, served as the chief guest for the occasion, while Mahant Rohit Shastri, a state awardee, was the special guest. During his keynote address, Ashok Singh, president of the Delphic Council, welcomed participants and reflected on the success of recent cultural festivals held in Srinagar and Jammu.
The event featured performances that captivated attendees, including a Dogri song by acclaimed singer Vanshika Jaral and a skit performed by students from GHSS Khanna Chhargal, which illustrated the dangers of drug use. Additionally, students showcased a Rajasthani dance in celebration of the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” further enriching the cultural experience.
Sham Lal Sharma praised the Delphic Council for organizing such impactful events, noting their importance in raising awareness about the drug crisis and providing students with creative outlets. He encouraged the council to continue these initiatives to engage and educate rural communities.
A panel of judges, including renowned artist Chander Shekhar Bunty and cartoonist Vinod Verma, assessed the artwork while demonstrating their artistic skills to inspire the young participants. Other notable attendees included Ramesh Chander, secretary general, and several council members.
The head of Surya Tapi Kids Care School, Sonia Bharti, expressed gratitude in her vote of thanks, acknowledging the Delphic Council’s efforts in organizing such a vibrant program at her institution.
This event not only provided an opportunity for artistic expression but also fostered community spirit and awareness on critical social issues, marking a successful day for the students and organizers alike.
