World Book of Records Recognizes Nitish Kumar’s Historic 10th Term
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has achieved a significant milestone by being sworn in for the tenth time, a feat officially recognized by the World Book of Records in London. On November 20, 2023, Kumar took the oath of office during a grand ceremony in Patna, attended by notable leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The announcement was made by Sanjay Jha, national working president of the Janata Dal (United), who shared the news on social media platform X. Jha expressed his pride in Kumar’s achievement, describing it as a “truly rare distinction” within India’s democratic framework. He emphasized that this recognition underscores Kumar’s “unwavering public service, stable governance, and the enduring trust reposed in him by the people of Bihar.”
Kumar first assumed the chief minister role in 2000 but stepped down shortly after due to a lack of majority in a floor test. His political career has been marked by various alliances, including partnerships with both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition’s INDIA bloc (Mahagathbandhan). Since returning to power in 2005, he has maintained his position, with only a brief interruption when he transferred leadership to Jitan Ram Manjhi following poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections.
Significance of the Achievement
Jha noted that leading a state through ten terms is not merely a personal accomplishment for Kumar but also a historic moment for Bihar, reflecting the state’s democratic strength. The World Book of Records plans to formally include Kumar’s name in its global listings to honor this unparalleled achievement.
Despite his long tenure, Kumar does not rank among the top five longest-serving chief ministers in India. He currently holds the eighth position, trailing behind notable figures such as Pawan Kumar Chamling of Sikkim and Naveen Patnaik of Odisha. Kumar’s sustained leadership is seen as a testament to his adaptability and resilience in navigating the complexities of regional and national politics.
As the people of Bihar celebrate this milestone, Kumar’s commitment to governance and development remains a focal point of public discourse. His leadership style and decisions in the coming years will be closely watched as they will shape the future trajectory of Bihar and its democratic landscape.
