Erode District Collector Urges Annual Vaccination for Pets
The District Collector of Erode, S. Kandasamy, has issued a call to the community, urging pet owners to vaccinate their dogs and cats annually. This appeal highlights the importance of vaccination in preventing rabies, a potentially fatal disease. According to the Collector’s press release, free rabies vaccinations are available at government veterinary hospitals in the district.
Vaccination against rabies is crucial for safeguarding both pets and public health. The release emphasized that adhering to the prescribed vaccination schedule can provide 100% protection against the disease. Pet owners are advised to follow a four-dose vaccination regimen: the first dose should be administered on the day of a bite, with subsequent doses given on the 3rd, 7th, and 28th days. Failure to complete the vaccination on time can lead to serious health risks, including fatal infections.
S. Kandasamy has stressed the importance of timely vaccinations, warning that neglecting this can have dire consequences. Rabies vaccines are accessible at all government hospitals and Primary Health Centres, ensuring that pet owners can obtain vaccinations whenever needed. The government has made provisions for these vaccines to be available around the clock, further facilitating access for the community.
The Collector’s initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance animal health and promote responsible pet ownership in Erode. By encouraging regular vaccinations, authorities aim to minimize the risk of rabies transmission within the community. The public is urged to take this opportunity to protect their pets and, by extension, the broader population from rabies.
Pet owners in Erode are encouraged to take immediate action and ensure that their pets are vaccinated according to the health guidelines provided. The benefits of vaccination extend beyond individual animals, contributing to community health and safety.
