On November 26, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior state leaders marked Constitution Day with messages encouraging citizens to embrace the principles outlined in the Indian Constitution. Adityanath stressed the importance of justice, equality, and fraternity, which he described as the core tenets of the Constitution. In a message shared on social media platform X, he highlighted the document’s foundation built upon the “extraordinary vision, sharp intellect and tireless efforts” of B R Ambedkar.

Adityanath characterized the Constitution as a hallmark of India’s robust democratic traditions, asserting that it not only fosters national unity and progress but also guarantees equal rights, dignity, and opportunities for all citizens. His call to action emphasized the collective responsibility to uphold these values in everyday life.

Deputy Chief Minister and Opposition Leader Join Tributes

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also extended his greetings, describing the Constitution as a beacon of supreme human values and social justice. In his post on X, Maurya highlighted how the Constitution embodies respect, inclusivity, and a strong sense of duty, guiding India towards integrity and sustained development. He urged citizens to commit to upholding constitutional values as a pathway to building a “prosperous, just and developed nation.”

Opposition leader and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati paid homage to Ambedkar, emphasizing the need for both the central and state governments to not only celebrate Constitution Day but to sincerely implement its egalitarian and welfare-oriented objectives. Mayawati concluded her message with the phrases “Jai Bhim, Jai Bharat, Jai Samvidhan,” reflecting her commitment to the values enshrined in the Constitution.

Significance of Constitution Day

Constitution Day, known as Samvidhan Divas, commemorates the official adoption of the Indian Constitution on November 26, 1949. The Government of India designated November 26 as Constitution Day in 2015 to encourage citizens to appreciate the significance of the Constitution in ensuring democracy and justice in the country.

This year’s observance is a reminder of the ongoing journey to realize the constitutional promises of equality and justice for all. Leaders across the political spectrum have called on citizens to reflect on these ideals and work collectively towards upholding them in their daily lives.
