The new traffic loop at Hebbal is expected to open within 15 days, according to an announcement made by M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). During a site visit on Tuesday, Rao instructed the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) to expedite construction efforts to ensure the loop is ready for public use shortly.

Rao’s inspection covered various areas within the North Corporation limits. He noted that the BDA had already completed work on a new flyover loop from K.R. Puram, which is now accessible to commuters. The loop is designed to connect this new structure to the existing Hebbal flyover. Officials informed Rao that the first girder has been installed, with concrete work progressing on schedule. He emphasized the urgency of installing the remaining two girders and completing all outstanding tasks as soon as possible.

In addition to the flyover loop, Rao identified issues with the footpath along Hebbal Lake, which has suffered damage in multiple areas. He instructed officials to repair the footpath to enhance pedestrian safety. Furthermore, one carriageway of the Hebbal flyover has been milled and re-asphalted, and Rao directed the team to continue milling the remaining stretch and complete the asphalting promptly.

Infrastructure Developments and Future Projects

During the inspection, Rao also reviewed asphalting work in the RMV 2nd Stage and Basaveshwara Layout, particularly focusing on roads that connect arterial and sub-arterial networks. At the Nagawara Junction, he was updated on the ongoing need for the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to lay a 600 to 700-mm sanitary pipeline over a distance of 1 km, extending from the Ibis Hotel to the Nagawara rajakaluve (storm-water drain). While the North Traffic Division has granted permission for this work, the Eastern Traffic Division’s approval is still pending. BWSSB indicated plans to commence work from the northern side once all necessary permissions are secured.

In a related development, the BDA has proposed a new 1.4-km flyover aimed at improving traffic flow for vehicles coming from the Outer Ring Road and the K.R. Puram side, particularly along Manyata Tech Park Road. This flyover will allow vehicles to merge directly onto Ballari Road near Esteem Mall without navigating through the Hebbal junction. Officials have begun discussions with various departments regarding this proposal, which is part of the state government’s broader plan to alleviate congestion in the Hebbal corridor.

Earlier this August, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced plans for a 1.5-km tunnel between Nagawara and the University of Agricultural Sciences (GKVK) during his inspection of the new Hebbal flyover loop. He highlighted that both the tunnel and the loop are integral components of a series of short tunnels and flyovers designed to ease traffic from all directions approaching the junction.

These infrastructure improvements reflect a concerted effort by local authorities to enhance traffic management and connectivity within Bengaluru, aiming to address the growing challenges posed by urban congestion.
