National School of Drama Opens Mumbai Centre for Aspiring Artists
The National School of Drama (NSD) has officially opened a new centre in Mumbai, providing a significant opportunity for aspiring artists in the city. Veteran actor Manoj Joshi attended the inauguration, expressing enthusiasm for the year-long, production-oriented training program now available to students.
During the launch event, which took place on October 25, 2023, Manoj Joshi and Chittranjan Tripathi, the Director of NSD, highlighted the importance of expanding the institution’s influence into Mumbai, often regarded as the heart of India’s entertainment industry.
Significance of the New Centre
In an interview with ANI, Joshi described the launch as “truly a moment of great joy.” He emphasized the city’s pivotal role in the drama, television, and film sectors, stating, “It is especially significant that the National School of Drama now has a centre here.”
The new facility aims to provide aspiring artists with comprehensive training from experienced teachers and lecturers. “Those who study here will not only refine their craft but also nurture and carry forward the spirit of their art,” he added.
Inspiring Future Artists
Director Chittranjan Tripathi also spoke passionately about the opportunities the new centre offers. He encouraged young artists to embrace the educational resources it provides, urging them to “come here and study, and work hard on yourself.”
Tripathi underscored the unpredictability of life, saying, “There is no guarantee of anything in the world, not even of breathing. But if you work hard, then there is no alternative to that.” His words resonated with attendees and highlighted the commitment to fostering talent in the performing arts.
Among the dignitaries present at the event were notable figures such as Pradeep Mohanti, Waman Kendre, Raghubir Yadav, Meeta Vashisht, Zakir Hussain, Swanand Kirkire, Atul Tiwari, and Sameer Upadhyay. Their attendance marked a collective support for the new initiative, signaling a bright future for theatre education in Mumbai.
The establishment of the NSD centre in Mumbai is expected to not only elevate the local arts scene but also enhance the overall quality of performing arts education in the country, providing a pathway for many to pursue their dreams in this vibrant city.
