On October 3, 2023, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited the Panjpiri Sheetla Mata Temple located in Gujrehda, near Palampur in the Kangra district. He was accompanied by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the founder of the Art of Living Foundation. During the visit, Sukhu participated in a ceremonial lighting of a lamp at the newly constructed temple and received blessings from the renowned spiritual leader.

Praising a Visionary Leader

In his address, Chief Minister Sukhu commended Sri Sri Ravi Shankar for his relentless efforts to promote peace, tolerance, and humanitarian values globally. He described the spiritual leader as a humanitarian figure and an ambassador of peace, whose vision aims to create a stress-free and violence-free society. Sukhu emphasized that Ravi Shankar’s teachings have inspired millions and provided fresh motivation for the younger generation.

“It is a matter of pride for Himachal Pradesh that he has established the ‘Kailash Ashram’ in the lap of the Dhauladhar ranges, where disciples from around the globe will revitalize themselves with renewed energy,” Sukhu said. He noted that the region, often referred to as ‘Devbhoomi’ or the Land of the Gods, is home to numerous deities, enhancing its spiritual significance.

Enhancing Tourism and Infrastructure

To boost tourism in the state, the Himachal Pradesh government is expanding the Kangra Airport. Sukhu announced plans to upgrade the Gujrehda link road to facilitate easier access for followers of the Art of Living, ensuring they do not encounter any difficulties when visiting the area.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar expressed appreciation for the Chief Minister’s dedication to serving the people of Himachal Pradesh. He highlighted that the grand Panjpiri Sheetla Mata Temple is strategically located facing the Aadi Himani Chamunda Temple, reinforcing the importance of spiritual practice in everyday life. “The deities are not distant; they dwell within each of us,” Ravi Shankar remarked.

In further discussions, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar proposed the establishment of an Osteopathy College in Himachal Pradesh. He believes that such an institution would provide local youth with the opportunity to learn this modern treatment system, thereby creating sustainable livelihood options. He emphasized the need for society to embrace both contemporary and traditional practices to move forward effectively.

This collaborative effort between the Chief Minister and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar signifies a commitment to enhancing spiritual and tourism-related infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh, while also promoting education and wellness in the region.
