The recent “Namo Run” marathon in Delhi aimed to promote fitness and raise awareness about road safety. Organized as part of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav 2025, the event attracted numerous participants, including school students and young adults, eager to engage in this initiative.

Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva emphasized the significance of the event while announcing a substantial allocation of Rs 3,794 crore for sports in the upcoming fiscal year, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “This marathon, organized by MP Harsh Malhotra, also carries a vital message of road safety,” Sachdeva stated. He further remarked, “Sports are a big medium of discipline and concentration. Organizing such events encourages youth involvement, which is essential for our nation’s future.”

Chief Minister Praises Initiative

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially flagged off the marathon at the Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar, East Delhi. In her remarks, she lauded the event as a significant step towards enhancing road safety in the capital. “Linking sports competitions with road safety through this race is a commendable idea. These competitions will help in making Delhi safe and developed,” Gupta noted.

Elaborating further, she highlighted the relationship between road safety and sports. “Just as athletes must maintain focus to avoid accidents, we must also be vigilant while navigating our roads,” she explained. “Using mobile phones while walking or driving can lead to mishaps, similar to how distractions can affect performance in sports.”

Gupta also drew parallels between the discipline required in both areas. She pointed out that just as drugs are banned in sports for the safety of athletes, they also pose risks on the road. “Staying in your lane is crucial in both sports and while driving. Both require strength, skill, and a commitment to safety,” she stated, congratulating the youth for participating in the event.

Encouraging Community Participation

The Namo Run attracted enthusiastic participation from various segments of the community, reflecting a growing awareness of fitness and road safety among residents of Delhi. Participants included school students and young adults who embraced the opportunity to engage in a health-focused event that also promotes critical safety messages.

The initiative not only aimed to encourage physical fitness but also sought to cultivate responsible behavior on the roads. With a blend of sports and safety awareness, the marathon has set a precedent for future events in the region, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in health and safety initiatives.

The success of the Namo Run underscores the potential of such events to foster a culture of fitness and responsible road use, marking a positive step forward for Delhi.
