The third day of the 2025 BWF Hylo Open showcased remarkable performances by Indian badminton players, as they fought for a place in the quarterfinals of the Super 500 event held in Germany. Notably, both Lakshya Sen and Kiran George achieved significant victories, enhancing India’s presence in this prestigious tournament.
In a thrilling men’s singles round of 16 match, Lakshya Sen faced off against fellow Indian player Sankar Muthusamy. Sen, demonstrating his superior form, dominated the match with a convincing score of 21-14, 21-11. Muthusamy, who had made headlines by defeating World No. 22 Jeong Jun Hao in the previous round, was unable to replicate that success against the more experienced Sen.
Kiran George delivered one of the day’s standout performances, overcoming Toma Junior Popov, the French World No. 13, in a tightly contested encounter. After dropping the first game 18-21, George rallied to win the next two games with scores of 21-18 and 21-19, showcasing his determination and skill on the court.
The excitement continued as Ayush Shetty eliminated former World Champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore in straight games, finishing the match in under 40 minutes with a score of 21-11, 21-11. This impressive victory further solidified India’s strong showing in the tournament.
Women’s Singles Success and Doubles Setback
In the women’s singles category, both Unaati Hooda and Rakshitha Sree Santhosh Ramraj achieved victories, adding to India’s tally. Hooda defeated Denmark’s Julie Dawall Jakobson convincingly with a score of 21-9, 21-18. Meanwhile, Ramraj showcased her resilience by coming back from a game down to win against compatriot Shriyanshi Valishetty, concluding the match at 19-21, 21-8, 21-13.
On a less favorable note, the doubles pairing of Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde faced a tough challenge against the Danish duo of Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje, ultimately losing the match with a score of 21-16, 21-11.
The results from Thursday’s matches at the Hylo Open demonstrate the competitive spirit and skill of Indian players, propelling them into the quarterfinals and setting the stage for more thrilling encounters as the tournament progresses.
