Cardiff City’s Callum Robinson Eager for Chelsea Clash in EFL Cup
Cardiff City striker Callum Robinson expressed his enthusiasm for facing Chelsea in the upcoming EFL Cup quarter-finals, following the draw that pitted the two teams against each other. Chelsea secured their place in the last eight with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Cardiff advanced after defeating Wrexham.
The match is particularly significant for Robinson, who has an impressive track record against Chelsea in his career. The 30-year-old Irish international took to social media platform X to share his anticipation for the clash. Throughout his career, Robinson has faced Chelsea while playing for various clubs, including West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United, and Aston Villa, maintaining an unbeaten record with five goals in three appearances.
Robinson’s first encounter with Chelsea occurred in the 2013-14 season when he was part of Aston Villa. Although he did not play in the match, Villa emerged victorious with a 1-0 win. His most notable performances against the Blues came during the 2019-20 season, when he scored in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge while with Sheffield United. The following season, as a West Brom player, he netted two goals in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Chelsea, managed by Frank Lampard. Robinson further solidified his prowess against the Blues by scoring twice in a stunning 5-2 victory at Stamford Bridge under Thomas Tuchel.
As Cardiff prepares to take on Chelsea, they hope to be the first team to hand Robinson a defeat against the London club. Additionally, they may face a familiar face in Omari Kellyman, a loanee from Chelsea who could receive permission to play against his parent club.
Chelsea’s recent victory over Wolves showcased their resilience, as they managed to secure a win despite going down to ten men. The Blues raced into a three-goal lead in the first half, thanks to goals from Andrey Santos, Tyrique George, and Estevao Willian. The hosts fought back after the break with goals from Tolu Arokodare and David Moller Wolfe, closing the gap. Chelsea’s Liam Delap was sent off for two yellow cards, adding to the drama. However, the Blues found the net again through Jamie Gittens before conceding once more, ultimately surviving a late surge from Wolves to secure their quarter-final spot.
The match between Cardiff City and Chelsea is set to be an exciting encounter, with Robinson looking to extend his remarkable scoring streak against the Premier League side. As the EFL Cup quarter-finals approach, fans eagerly await the showdown that promises to be filled with intensity and high stakes.
