Pune’s PMC Chief Prioritizes Traffic Solutions and Road Upgrades
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram announced on November 6, 2023, that the city administration is concentrating on alleviating traffic bottlenecks and improving vehicular movement. In his statement, Ram emphasized the importance of utilizing existing funds to enhance the road network, aiming for a smoother flow of traffic throughout the city.
To better understand the current traffic conditions, Ram has been actively visiting various locations, including Wagholi and Dhayari. These inspections are part of a broader initiative to review civic services and identify effective solutions for the city’s transport challenges.
Plans for Road Infrastructure Enhancements
Regarding the proposed Balbharati-Paud Phata link road, the commissioner revealed that the administration is preparing to begin the process of securing environmental clearance. “Both underground and elevated road alignments are under consideration, and PMC will evaluate these options. Budgetary provisions will be made accordingly,” Ram stated. This project is expected to significantly impact the connectivity and traffic management in the area.
In addition to road improvements, Ram noted that enhancements in sanitation and related civic services are also on the agenda. The goal is to create a more efficient and cleaner urban environment for residents.
Traffic Management Measures and Repairs
As part of ongoing infrastructure management, one lane of the Savarkar flyover at Paud Phata Chowk will be closed for repairs until November 26, 2023. The PMC has advised motorists to seek alternative routes to minimize delays and avoid traffic congestion during this period.
Additionally, the Maha Metro organization announced that there are no plans to halt construction work at Baba Bhide Bridge between the hours of 17:00 and 23:00, despite requests from commuters. This decision underscores the commitment to maintaining project timelines and improving public transportation infrastructure in Pune.
The efforts by the PMC, led by Ram, reflect a proactive approach to addressing the city’s traffic and infrastructure challenges while ensuring public safety and convenience. As these projects unfold, residents can anticipate a more organized and accessible urban landscape.
