Kerala Minister V Sivankutty Announces Housing for School Olympics Gold Medalists
V Sivankutty, the Kerala General Education Minister, has unveiled a significant initiative aimed at supporting students who excel in the State School Olympics. During a recent announcement, he stated that students who win gold medals or establish new meet records will be eligible for housing assistance. This initiative is set to provide homes to deserving young athletes, marking a notable commitment to fostering sports talent in the region.
A committee will be formed shortly to establish the criteria for eligibility, ensuring that the initiative is both fair and transparent. Sivankutty expressed optimism about the program, emphasizing that several sponsors have already committed to funding the construction of 50 houses under this initiative.
Among those benefiting from this promise are Devapriya from Idukki and Devananda from Kozhikode. Both students have been informed by local committees, including the CPM Idukki district committee and the Kerala Scouts and Guides of the General Education Department, that they will receive newly constructed houses. This direct support underscores the government’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding young athletes for their achievements.
Sivankutty elaborated on the initiative through a post on Facebook, where he outlined the General Education Department’s vision to expand this program significantly. Given the number of eligible students participating in the School Olympics, he noted that the department aims to scale the initiative beyond the initial target of 50 houses.
This housing initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of sports in education and the need for support systems for talented young athletes. As the program develops, it is expected to enhance the overall landscape of sports in Kerala, encouraging more students to strive for excellence in their athletic pursuits. The initiative not only aims to provide physical homes but also seeks to create a nurturing environment for future champions of the State School Olympics.
Through this program, the Kerala government demonstrates its commitment to investing in youth and promoting sports as a vital aspect of personal and community development. As details of the eligibility criteria are finalized, many will be watching closely to see how this initiative impacts the lives of young athletes across the state.
