Telangana Sets Ambitious ₹1 Lakh Crore Investment Target in Life Sciences

Telangana has announced a bold initiative to attract investments worth ₹1 lakh crore (approximately $12 billion) in the life sciences sector by 2030, aiming to create one lakh new jobs in the process. This ambitious plan was unveiled by Duddilla Sridhar Babu, the state’s Minister for Industries and Information Technology, during his keynote address at the AusBiotech International Conference 2025 held in Melbourne.

During the conference, which was collaboratively organized by AusBiotech and the Government of Victoria, Sridhar Babu outlined Telangana’s strategy to establish itself as a global hub for life sciences. He emphasized the development of a comprehensive life sciences policy for 2030, aimed at fostering innovation, enhancing infrastructure, and building global partnerships.

Sridhar Babu extended an invitation to Australian companies to explore investment opportunities in a range of high-growth areas. These include cell and gene therapy, biologics and biosimilars, mRNA vaccines, contract research and development, diagnostics, MedTech, and digital health. He stated, “Telangana’s strength lies in its innovation ecosystem. Our slogan is not merely Make in India, but Invent in Telangana,” highlighting the region’s commitment to innovation.

The minister expressed optimism that the conference would serve as the catalyst for establishing a “Victoria–Telangana Innovation Corridor.” He also encouraged Australian firms to participate in BioAsia 2026, an upcoming event scheduled to take place in Hyderabad in February.

Telangana’s government is making significant investments in workforce development, focusing on creating a bio-digital workforce equipped to meet the demands of emerging technologies in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and healthcare. The state aims to ensure that its workforce is ready to support the evolving landscape of the life sciences sector.

Hyderabad, the state capital, has gained recognition as a global life sciences hub. It was recently featured in the Global Life Sciences Atlas 2025, standing alongside prominent cities such as Boston, San Francisco, Cambridge, Beijing, and Tokyo. Sridhar Babu underscored that Hyderabad is the only Indian city to be included in this prestigious list, further solidifying its status on the global stage.

With these strategic initiatives, Telangana is positioning itself as a key player in the international life sciences arena, harnessing its innovative potential to attract significant investments and create valuable job opportunities.
