Hyderabad Emerges as a Global Hub for System Design Innovation
Hyderabad is establishing itself as a significant global centre for system design, according to Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. While addressing the Bioinspired Frontiers 2025 International Conference on Space Economy, Biomimicry, and Extraterrestrial Resources, he emphasized the city’s historical role in science and innovation and invited international research institutions, investors, and innovators to collaborate with the state of Telangana. He assured attendees of world-class infrastructure and a supportive ecosystem under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Bhatti welcomed delegates from around the world, characterizing Hyderabad as a city where “the precision of science meets the poetry of imagination.” He reflected on the city’s legacy in shaping India’s scientific landscape, highlighting key institutions such as the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL). These institutions have laid the groundwork for the nation’s aerospace, metallurgy, and electronics sectors.
Bhatti noted that this legacy is inspiring a new generation of innovators. He pointed to successful start-ups like Skyroot Aerospace and Dhruva Space as examples of how world-class systems can be developed in Telangana. A growing number of firms in robotics, materials science, and 3D printing are redefining India’s space economy in collaboration with prestigious institutions such as IIT Hyderabad, IIIT Hyderabad, and T-Works.
Telangana’s Innovation Framework
The Deputy Chief Minister outlined the “Telangana Model of Innovation,” which hinges on public institutions forming a solid foundation, start-ups building upon that base, and universities cultivating talent. Industrial clusters like Adibatla, e-City, Genome Valley, and the upcoming Telangana Mobility Valley exemplify the state’s commitment to innovation, manufacturing, and sustainability.
Bhatti stated that “nature is the original engineer,” emphasizing that Telangana is adopting biomimetic design and green technologies as integral components of its development strategy. He expressed a vision for the state to serve as a launchpad for India’s expanding space economy, positioning Hyderabad as a bridge “between knowledge and discovery, between Earth and sky.”
The conference also saw participation from key figures such as D. Krishna Bhaskar, Chairman and Managing Director of Transco, and M. Abbas, CEO of GEOPAQ, among other officials. Their presence underscores the collaborative spirit that the conference aimed to foster, as Telangana seeks to enhance its role on the global stage in system design and innovation.
