Army Medic Saves Infant’s Life with Quick CPR on Train

On October 13, 2025, an army medic’s quick actions saved the life of an eight-month-old infant aboard the Rajdhani Express while it was en route to Dibrugarh. The child suffered a sudden respiratory arrest around 16:30, causing panic among passengers as the situation escalated when the mother fainted from shock.
In the S4 coach, Sepoy Sunil, an Ambulance Assistant from the 456 Field Hospital, was returning from leave and found himself amidst the chaos. Recognizing the severity of the situation, he quickly assessed the infant, who was unresponsive and lacked a pulse.
Immediate Response and Life-Saving Techniques
Without hesitation, Sepoy Sunil initiated paediatric CPR using the two-finger chest compression method combined with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Within two cycles, the infant began to show signs of life, bringing an overwhelming sense of relief to those on board.
Following the revival, Sunil coordinated with both the train staff and the Railway Police to facilitate the child’s evacuation for immediate medical attention at Rangiya station. His actions exemplified not only his medical training but also a profound sense of duty.
Praise for Quick Thinking and Training
Defence officials have commended Sepoy Sunil for his prompt and professional response. A senior official remarked, “Sepoy Sunil’s timely, professional, and selfless actions brought reassurance to many aboard and undoubtedly saved a young life.”
This incident highlights the crucial role that trained medical personnel can play outside of traditional healthcare settings. It also underscores the commitment of the Indian Army to serve the community, demonstrating that their responsibilities extend beyond the battlefield.
The successful intervention not only saved a life but also showcased the invaluable impact of readiness and training in emergency situations. As the story of Sepoy Sunil circulates, it serves as a reminder of the potential for heroism found in everyday circumstances.
