PM Modi Receives Prestigious Knesset Speaker Honor in Israel

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made history on March 13, 2024, by becoming the first Indian leader to receive the prestigious title of “Speaker of the Knesset,” the highest honor awarded by the Israeli Parliament. This recognition highlights Modi’s significant contributions to enhancing the strategic partnership between India and Israel.

During his address to the Knesset, Modi emphasized the strong ties between the two nations and shared a personal connection to Israel’s history. He noted that he was born on September 17, 1950, the day India officially recognized Israel. Reflecting on his journey, he stated, “Nine years ago, I had the good fortune to be the first PM of India to visit Israel, and I’m very happy to be here again, returning to a land to which I always felt drawn.”

In addition to the Knesset honor, Modi previously received the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine in 2018, which is the highest award given to foreign dignitaries. His ongoing diplomatic efforts have positioned India as a key player in Middle Eastern relations.

Modi’s visit to Israel is not limited to ceremonial honors. On March 14, 2024, he plans to visit Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial established in 1953 to honor the six million Jews who were killed during the Nazi regime.
