Andhra Police Enhance Crackdown on Drugs with Surprise Inspection
In response to a recent surge in illegal drug activities, the Andhra Pradesh police conducted a surprise inspection at the Balaji Nagar Police Station on Sunday. This initiative, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Deeksha, aimed to evaluate the station’s operational readiness and adherence to discipline and transparency amid ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Nellore.
Inspection Focus and Findings
The surprise inspection was prompted following a crime review meeting and a district-wide drug awareness programme. ASP Deeksha confirmed that the necessary surveillance and transparency measures were in place at the police station. Speaking to reporters after the visit, she stated, “Today, after the crime review meeting and drug awareness program, I inspected the Balaji Nagar police station. The staff was found disciplined and properly alert.”
All surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras, were reported to be operational, contributing to the station’s efficient functioning. ASP Deeksha emphasized the importance of preventive policing and mentioned that the police station’s jurisdiction had been closely assessed to enhance crime prevention strategies.
Focus on Known Offenders and Public Safety
Particular attention is being directed towards specific crime categories, including property offences, bodily offences, and drug abuse. She noted, “We are putting special focus on property offences, bodily offences, drug abuse and rowdy sheeters.” Regular monitoring of known offenders is a key component of this strategy. ASP Deeksha revealed that the top ten rowdy sheeters, who are required to report to their respective police stations every Sunday at 11 AM, are being actively supervised. Out of the ten, five are currently incarcerated at Kadapa Central Prison, while the others comply with reporting requirements.
To bolster community involvement in the fight against drug abuse, ASP Deeksha encouraged the public to reach out through the Eagle Club helpline number 1972 for information related to drug activities, particularly concerning ganja. Additionally, plans are underway to organize a large cycle rally aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug consumption. Starting tomorrow, police will initiate extensive cordon-and-search operations throughout the city, reinforcing their commitment to enhancing public safety.
The combination of proactive policing measures and community engagement reflects the Andhra Pradesh police’s dedication to combatting drug-related crime and ensuring the safety of residents in Nellore and surrounding areas.
