Akhil Gogoi Unveils Raijor Dal’s Ambitious 2026 Election Manifesto
Akhil Gogoi, the president of the Raijor Dal and Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), officially launched the party’s manifesto for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections on Sunday. The document outlines a vision for a “prosperous, skilled, secure and united Assam,” focusing on comprehensive reforms and development initiatives.
One of the primary highlights of the manifesto is a commitment to agricultural reforms, which includes the establishment of assured Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for over 20 crops. Additionally, Raijor Dal aims to promote small and village-based industries to bolster local economies. A significant financial commitment is also outlined, with the party proposing a budget of Rs 5,000 crore to fund start-up initiatives and large-scale skill development programs, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology.
Key Proposals and Social Commitments
The manifesto emphasizes the importance of education and healthcare, pledging to provide free quality services in both sectors. Furthermore, it calls for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), which would benefit retired government employees. The party also proposes loan waivers for women, enhancing financial support for this demographic, along with increased honorarium for frontline workers who have been pivotal during the ongoing public health challenges.
Raijor Dal reiterated its strong opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and demanded the identification and deportation of foreigners who entered India post-1971. The manifesto also promises to secure land rights for indigenous populations and tea garden workers, addressing long-standing issues related to land ownership and employment in these sectors.
Focus on Flood Management and Autonomy
In light of Assam’s challenges with flooding, the party proposes a scientific approach to flood management, aiming to mitigate the impact of natural disasters on local communities. Furthermore, Raijor Dal advocates for greater autonomy for tribal areas and those under the Sixth Schedule, which would empower local governance and address the unique needs of these regions.
The launch of this manifesto sets the stage for a competitive election period in Assam. As the political landscape evolves, the commitments made by the Raijor Dal under the leadership of Akhil Gogoi may resonate with a populace seeking significant change and development. With the elections approaching, the party’s strategies will be closely examined by constituents and political analysts alike.
