Panasonic Drives E-Waste Awareness with 500 kg Collection Effort

In a significant effort to promote sustainability, Panasonic Life Solutions India (PLSIND) celebrated International E-Waste Day on October 14, 2025, by organizing a collection drive that gathered over 500 kilograms of electronic waste. This initiative is part of PLSIND’s flagship sustainability program, Harit Umang, which addresses critical issues surrounding e-waste and plastic management, afforestation, biodiversity, and energy conservation.
The theme for this year’s International E-Waste Day was “Critical Raw Materials.” This concept underscores the importance of resources that are vital for the operation of modern technologies and industries. The theme aligns closely with Panasonic’s global commitment to sustainability through its GREEN IMPACT mission, which aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 300 million tons worldwide by 2050.
Engaging the Community in Sustainability
To reinforce its commitment to Extended Producer Responsibility, Panasonic encouraged employees to participate in the #DiwaliWaaliSafai campaign. This drive invited staff to contribute e-waste from their homes for responsible recycling. The initiative extended beyond corporate boundaries, as Panasonic collaborated with more than 10 institutes, 8 schools, and 2 colleges. These partnerships facilitated interactive learning sessions focused on sustainable practices, allowing students to engage with the principles of environmental responsibility.
Participants in the program explored exhibitions and a ‘Gallery Walk’ that illustrated how critical raw materials are utilized in everyday appliances. This hands-on experience highlighted the importance of responsible collection and disposal of e-waste, fostering a deeper understanding among attendees.
Mr. Tadashi Chiba, Managing Director and CEO of Panasonic Life Solutions India, emphasized the role of collective action in addressing e-waste challenges. He stated, “Sustainability lies at the heart of Panasonic’s philosophy and guides every action we take. This International E-Waste Day is a reminder that tackling the global e-waste challenge requires shared responsibility. While Panasonic continues to design for longevity and maximize resource recovery, we urge every consumer to take that critical final step: don’t hoard, recycle. Together, we can close the loop and protect our shared environment for future generations.”
Successful Collection and Responsible Recycling
The collection drive yielded over 500 kilograms of e-waste, all of which was responsibly handed over to authorized recyclers for metal extraction and recovery. This initiative not only reflects Panasonic’s commitment to sustainability but also encourages community engagement in environmental stewardship.
As awareness of e-waste issues continues to grow, initiatives like Panasonic’s serve as important reminders of the collective responsibility to address environmental challenges. Through education, engagement, and action, companies and individuals alike can contribute to a more sustainable future.
