Fans Criticize India’s Tactics as Suryakumar Yadav Bats Last
Fans have expressed confusion and disappointment regarding the tactics employed by the Indian cricket team during their match against Oman in the 2025 Asia Cup. Notably, captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is regarded as one of the team’s best batters, did not bat until the number 11 position. This decision has sparked a significant debate on social media, with many considering it disrespectful to their opponents.
After winning the toss, India chose to bat first, finishing their innings at 188/8 in 20 overs. Throughout the innings, Yadav remained on the sidelines, ready to bat but never taking the crease. Instead, all-rounders and lower-order batters were sent in ahead of him. Fans were perplexed, particularly when Yadav was seen padded up during the partnership between Harshit Rana and Kuldeep Yadav, which occurred for the ninth wicket.
Commentator Vivek Razdan voiced similar concerns during the broadcast, stating, “This game shouldn’t be taken lightly. It should be given as much respect as possible. You have so many more matches to play, and your captain is still waiting to bat at number 11.” Such comments reflect the sentiment that the approach taken by the Indian team might undermine the competitive spirit of the game.
Yadav, who has typically batted no lower than number five in T20 International matches, faced scrutiny for his placement in the batting order. Initially, it appeared that sending players like Sanju Samson and Hardik Pandya to the crease, who had not yet batted in the tournament, was a strategic move. However, as wickets continued to fall, the decision drew increasing criticism, especially when even Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav batted ahead of him.
Concerns also arose regarding the possibility of an injury affecting Yadav’s participation. Despite these worries, he was seen padded up during the final over of India’s innings, and later took the field for the second innings, alleviating fears about his fitness.
The unconventional decision to keep the captain at the bottom of the batting order raises questions about the team’s strategy heading into future matches. As India continues in the Asia Cup, supporters and critics alike will be watching closely to see how the team adapts its approach and whether it will show the necessary respect to all opponents.
