Vehicle Registration Bank Details Made Optional in Hyderabad
In a recent development in Hyderabad, the submission of bank details for vehicle registration has become optional, according to officials from the Regional Transport Authority (RTA). This change follows feedback from some vehicle purchasers who expressed concerns regarding the requirement to provide their bank details at the time of registration at showrooms.
The new policy, which took effect on January 24, 2023, allows for the registration of new vehicles directly at showrooms, eliminating the need for buyers to visit the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Since the implementation of this policy, the RTA has reported that 1,632 vehicles have received temporary registration at showrooms, with permanent registration to be completed after a one-month period.
Peter Paul, the CEO of Fortune Honda, a dealership of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Ltd, noted that customers were hesitant to share their bank information. “The registration process at the showrooms had mostly been streamlined. Customers were not willing to share bank details. It was a mandatory clause, but we found it difficult to convince them. Now, it has become optional,” Paul stated in an interview.
Despite the positive reception of the new policy, several showrooms have raised concerns about the performance of the vehicle registration portal, Vahan and Sarathi. Dealerships have reported slow server responses, prompting requests for improvements from the government. The RTA officials confirmed that approximately 3,000 vehicles are registered daily in Telangana, with around 1,500 of those registrations occurring within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.
To ensure a smooth transition to the new system, RTA officials have been hosting daily web meetings with dealers to address any issues and facilitate the registration process. The updated policy is seen as a way to reduce the operational workload on transport officials, save customers time, and eliminate the involvement of intermediaries in the registration process.
As the vehicle registration process continues to evolve, the RTA aims to enhance efficiency while addressing the concerns of both customers and dealerships. The shift to optional bank detail submission represents a significant step in streamlining vehicle registration in the region.
