Aamir Khan Shifts Focus to Acting, Appoints Purohit as Producer
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has announced a significant change in his career trajectory, shifting his focus primarily towards acting. In a recent interview with Variety India, Khan stated that he has transferred leadership of his production company, Aamir Khan Productions (AKP), to Aparna Purohit. This move marks a new chapter for Khan as he plans to concentrate on his roles in front of the camera.
Khan revealed that several projects are scheduled for release in 2026 under this new arrangement. He emphasized that Purohit is well-equipped to manage the production house independently. “Internally, I’ve taken a big decision. My company, Aamir Khan Productions, is now being headed by Aparna Purohit,” he mentioned during the interview. Khan highlighted that all projects greenlit prior to Purohit’s appointment are set to debut next year, including titles like Happy Patel, which recently released, and upcoming films Ek Din and Lahore 1947.
In discussing his previous dual role as both producer and actor, Khan acknowledged the challenges involved. He noted, “When I’m the main producer who is handling all the projects, I get fully involved. So, in films like Happy Patel or Ek Din, I’m not acting in them.” Although he has a small cameo in Happy Patel, he clarified that his involvement as a producer does not diminish his creative input in projects such as Laapataa Ladies, even if he is not acting in them.
Khan elaborated on the demands of his producer responsibilities, stating, “I can’t give that much time to myself as an actor; I have to focus on my films, which I’ve taken on as responsibilities.” After several years of balancing both roles, he is now eager to devote his time entirely to his acting career.
His latest performance in Sitaare Zameen Par, released in 2025, has been well-received, further solidifying his status as a leading figure in Indian cinema. As he embarks on this new chapter, Khan expressed enthusiasm for exploring diverse stories and is contemplating his next acting role. The transition marks not only a personal evolution for the actor but also a significant shift in the dynamics of his production company, which has been a cornerstone of his career.
Khan’s decision to focus on acting while entrusting the operational aspects of his production house to Purohit reflects a thoughtful approach to his future in the industry. This strategic change could pave the way for new creative opportunities and potentially reshape the landscape of Indian cinema as he continues to engage with compelling narratives.
