8-Year-Old Injured by Air Gun in Sambalpur; Youth Detained

A tragic incident occurred in Sambalpur on Sunday, March 10, 2024, when an 8-year-old boy was injured after being shot with an air gun. The event took place in Rasnapur village, located within the Mirgamunda area. Local reports indicate that a youth named Dibyanshu Purohit was handling the air gun when the boy inadvertently came into the line of fire.

The air gun pellet struck the child in the right side of his armpit, resulting in significant injuries. Emergency responders promptly transported the injured boy to Burla Medical College and Hospital for initial care. However, as his condition worsened, medical professionals decided to transfer him to Sishu Bhavan in Cuttack for more specialized treatment.

Local authorities have since detained Dibyanshu Purohit for questioning regarding the incident. The police have also confiscated the air gun involved in the shooting as part of their investigation.
