MI New York Secures MLC 2025 Title, Continues Mumbai Indians’ Legacy

The Mumbai Indians’ global cricket dominance continues as MI New York clinched their second Major League Cricket (MLC) title, defeating Washington Freedom by just five runs in a thrilling final at the Grand Prairie Stadium. This victory reinforces the franchise’s impressive record, marking their 13th major title worldwide.
In a nail-biting contest, MI New York set a competitive target of 180 runs, thanks to a stellar performance from opener Quinton de Kock. He scored a remarkable 77 runs off 46 balls, featuring six fours and four sixes. De Kock received valuable support from Monank Patel, who contributed 28 runs, and captain Nicholas Pooran, who added 21 runs. Their contributions were pivotal in establishing a solid foundation for the innings.
Washington Freedom responded with determination, led by New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, who scored a commendable 70 runs off 41 balls. Glenn Phillips also made a significant impact with an unbeaten 48 runs. Despite their efforts, Washington Freedom fell short, finishing their innings at 175 runs for the loss of five wickets.
MI New York’s bowlers played a crucial role in maintaining pressure during the chase, ensuring that the trophy remained within the Mumbai Indians’ camp. This triumph not only highlights MI New York’s prowess but also underlines the franchise’s ongoing success in various cricket leagues.
The 2025 season has been particularly fruitful for the Mumbai Indians, with this being their third title of the year. Earlier in 2025, MI Cape Town secured the SA20 title, and the Mumbai Indians Women lifted the Women’s Premier League (WPL) trophy. The impressive haul of titles across different formats solidifies the Mumbai Indians’ reputation as a cricket powerhouse.
Historically, the Mumbai Indians have achieved remarkable success in various competitions, including:
– Indian Premier League (IPL): Champions in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
– Champions League T20: Winners in 2011 and 2013.
– Women’s Premier League (WPL): Champions in 2023 and 2025.
– International League T20 (ILT20): Titleholders with MI Emirates in 2024.
– South Africa T20 League (SA20): Champions with MI Cape Town in 2025.
– Major League Cricket (MLC): Champions with MI New York in 2023 and 2025.
With such a legacy of success, the Mumbai Indians family continues to inspire cricketers and fans alike, setting a high standard in the world of cricket. The future looks bright for MI New York and the broader Mumbai Indians franchise as they seek to build on this latest achievement.
