England Cricket’s Jofra Archer Takes a Playful Jab at Sundar

England Cricket made headlines during the final day of the third Test at Lord’s on March 25, 2024, by using a decade-old tweet from fast bowler Jofra Archer to humorously poke fun at Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar. The playful exchange unfolded as Sundar stepped up to the crease following the dismissal of fellow teammate Rishabh Pant.
As the match progressed, Sundar faced only four deliveries before Archer executed an impressive caught and bowled dismissal. Recognizing the moment, England Cricket’s official account on social media platform X seized the opportunity to share a tweet from Archer dating back to 2015. The original tweet asked, “How long does it take to get to Washington?” England Cricket responded by quipping, “Four balls.”
Despite the light-hearted banter, Sundar had earlier showcased his skills with the ball, taking four wickets for 22 runs during England’s second innings. His significant contributions included the critical dismissals of Jamie Smith and Joe Root, helping India restrict England to a total of 192 runs. Both teams had previously posted identical scores of 387 runs in their first innings.
As India faced a challenging target of 193 runs to win, they began Day 5 in a precarious position at 58 for 4. The situation deteriorated further when India slumped to 112 for 8, following Archer’s two wickets and one each from Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes. The Indian batting line-up, which had once looked promising, collapsed as they lost three wickets for just 11 runs, leaving them at 82 for 7.
The team was looking to opener KL Rahul to anchor their chase after his impressive century in the first innings. However, he managed to add only six runs to his overnight score of 33, intensifying India’s struggle to secure a victory.
As the match neared its conclusion, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja remained at the crease, attempting to mount a defense against England’s relentless bowling attack. The tension in the stadium was palpable as fans were treated to a thrilling contest between two competitive sides vying for supremacy at one of cricket’s most iconic venues.
