Union Minister and Andhra CM Launch Quantum Valley in Amaravati
On February 7, 2026, Dr Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, and N Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, laid the foundation stone for the Quantum Innovation Centre in Uddandarayunipalem, Amaravati. This initiative marks India’s ambitious entry into quantum technology, as the leaders emphasized the significant potential of quantum computing across various sectors.
During the ceremony, Dr Singh praised Chief Minister Naidu’s visionary leadership, asserting that the collaboration between the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Andhra Pradesh government is pivotal for technological advancement. He highlighted the recent launch of the deep-sea mission at Visakhapatnam, attributing this initiative to Naidu’s strategic foresight.
Dr Singh elaborated on the implications of quantum computing, noting that the Quantum Mission has received a substantial investment of Rs 6,000 crore. He underscored the technology’s critical role in enhancing cybersecurity, healthcare, and agriculture, positioning it as a cornerstone of future innovations.
N Chandrababu Naidu outlined his vision for advancing quantum computing in Andhra Pradesh, emphasizing the educational opportunities it presents for students. He shared an inspiring example of a seventh-grade student from Kuppam who developed an AI-based method to measure blood pressure and pulse rate through facial recognition. This anecdote illustrates the culture of innovation that Naidu aims to cultivate among the state’s over 5 million students.
The Chief Minister announced plans to inaugurate an Artificial Intelligence university at Medha Towers later this month, with intentions to relocate it to Amaravati. He indicated a shift in focus from traditional IT to quantum computing, aiming to empower students with cutting-edge skills. Naidu declared his ambition to establish Andhra Pradesh as a leading hub for both quantum and green hydrogen technologies, drawing parallels to Silicon Valley’s innovative landscape.
Major corporations, including IBM, TCS, and L&T, are already involved in the development of quantum technologies in Amaravati, with the first quantum computer expected to be operational by December 2026. The Chief Minister mentioned ongoing efforts to produce quantum computer components locally, targeting global export markets.
Naidu also announced the launch of two indigenous quantum computers at SRM University on April 14, coinciding with International Quantum Day. He emphasized the urgent need for approximately 250,000 quantum computing experts by 2030 and highlighted the state’s commitment to training initiatives, noting that over 208,000 students have already registered for advanced quantum courses at IIT Madras.
In a commitment to workforce development, IBM has pledged to train 5 million youths in Quantum AI and cybersecurity, with 1 million from Andhra Pradesh specifically targeted for this initiative. Naidu urged collaboration between students and industry to bolster Amaravati’s deep-tech ecosystem, detailing plans to establish AI Living Labs, a space city, a drone city, an electronic city, a MedTech zone, and a semiconductor zone.
He assured attendees that the administration is ready to make decisions at “quantum speed,” encouraging students to embrace new technologies with similar urgency. The event featured remarks from several dignitaries, including Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, Minister for IT Nara Lokesh, and key representatives from TCS, IBM, and academic institutions.
The foundation of the Quantum Innovation Centre marks a significant step forward in India’s technological landscape, positioning Amaravati as a future epicenter for quantum advancements and innovation.
