SIMATS Achieves Global Recognition with 111 Faculty in Top 2% Scientists

The Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) in Chennai has achieved a significant milestone, with 111 of its faculty members recognized among the world’s top 2% of scientists in the Stanford–Elsevier Scopus 2025 global database. This remarkable accomplishment positions SIMATS as the institution with the second-highest number of faculty on this esteemed list, following only the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru.
Outranking Prestigious Institutions
According to a report by The New Indian Express, SIMATS has outperformed several renowned institutions, including various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and national research centres. The Stanford–Elsevier career-long dataset ranks IISc first with 134 scientists included, while SIMATS follows closely with 111 faculty members. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi ranks third with 105, and IIT Kharagpur comes in fourth with 91, highlighting SIMATS’s growing prominence in research and innovation.
Dr N M Veeraiyan, Chancellor of SIMATS, expressed pride in this recognition, describing it as a defining moment for the institution. He noted that such global acclaim for a private university was once deemed unattainable, underscoring SIMATS’s emergence as a leader in scientific excellence.
Commitment to Quality Research
Vice-Chancellor Dr Ashwani Kumar emphasized the institute’s commitment to quality research over sheer quantity. He pointed out that alongside having 111 scientists in the global top 2%, SIMATS also maintains a strong representation among the top 500 Indian scientists. This achievement illustrates the institute’s role in advancing global scientific frontiers.
Dr Kumar further revealed that approximately 60% of SIMATS faculty research papers are published in Q1 journals, which are categorized as the top 25% of journals according to the SCImago Journal Rank. This statistic reflects the institute’s focus on producing high-quality research that contributes significantly to various scientific fields.
As SIMATS continues to build on this momentum, it reinforces its status as a leading institution in medical and technical sciences, inspiring future generations of researchers and academics.
