New Delhi is poised for a transformative collaboration that aims to redefine India’s built environment. The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) and the Council of Architecture (COA) have confirmed their participation in the 18th Municipalika 2026. This event, recognized as India’s oldest and leading platform for innovative urban solutions, is scheduled for February 25-27, 2026, at the prestigious Bharat Mandapam.

Organized by the Good Governance India Foundation and Fairfest Media Ltd., and co-organized by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), Municipalika 2026 will also feature two significant conferences: CAPEx, focusing on construction and design innovations, and PWX, which centers on public works and civic infrastructure. Together, these events represent a comprehensive ecosystem for urban development, uniting leaders from diverse fields such as architecture, planning, construction, and governance.

IIA’s Commitment to Urban Innovation

The Indian Institute of Architects has joined Municipalika 2026 as a Knowledge Partner, committing to lead several impactful initiatives. These initiatives include:

  • An Urban Innovation Challenge, a design competition aimed at young architects and planners, promoting innovative solutions for inclusive and climate-resilient cities.
  • The hosting of the IIA Council Meeting, which will gather national and state leadership in the architecture sector.
  • Engagement of over 500 leading architects and design professionals in knowledge sessions, exhibitions, and discussions on the future of urban design.

Ar. Vilas Avachat, President of the IIA, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The Indian Institute of Architects is delighted to extend its support to Municipalika, CAPEx 2026 in Bharat Mandapam, a leading platform that brings together stakeholders shaping India’s urban future. Our collaboration aligns with IIA’s mission to promote sustainable, inclusive, and well-designed urban environments.”

Ar. Divya Kush, Past President of IIA, has been appointed as the Coordinating Resource Person for these initiatives, collaborating closely with the Municipalika team.

COA’s Role in Advancing Urban Planning

The Council of Architecture has also affirmed its strong support for Municipalika 2026. This statutory body governs architectural practice in India and aims to enhance the quality of the built environment through education and practice. Ar. Abhay Purohit, President of COA, emphasized the importance of the event, saying, “Municipalika 2026 offers a crucial interface between architects, urban planners, engineers, construction experts, and smart city innovators, enabling design-led urban transformation.”

With the combined efforts of IIA and COA, Municipalika 2026, along with CAPEx and PWX, is set to become an unparalleled platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration. This partnership marks a significant step towards creating smarter, greener, and more design-driven cities across India.
