Kerala Launches 12 AYUSH Projects on Ayurveda Day

On October 31, 2023, Kerala will officially launch 12 AYUSH projects valued at ₹14.39 crore in celebration of annual Ayurveda Day. While some of these initiatives are already operational, the formal unveiling aims to enhance public awareness and accessibility of Ayurveda-based healthcare across the state.

Health Minister Veena George will inaugurate the Ayurveda Day celebrations and present these projects, which include a comprehensive maternity care program, an e-hospital covering 240 healthcare institutions, and the AYUSH Yoga Club app designed to encourage daily yoga participation.

Key Initiatives to Enhance Maternal and Child Health

Among the highlighted projects is ‘Suthikamitram’, a program that focuses on providing scientific training to women in Ayurveda-based prenatal and postnatal care. This initiative ensures that essential services are readily available for mothers and children throughout Kerala.

Another significant program, ‘Supraja’, aims to improve health outcomes for women during pregnancy and postpartum periods, while also promoting the healthy development of their children. These targeted health initiatives reflect Kerala’s commitment to using traditional Ayurvedic practices to enhance maternal and child health.

With over 10,000 yoga clubs currently active in the state, the AYUSH Yoga Club app serves as a resource for individuals to locate nearby facilities promoting yoga as a preventive measure against lifestyle diseases.

Specialty Clinics and Public Health Initiatives

The newly launched specialty clinics focus on non-communicable diseases, aiming to maximize Ayurveda’s potential in preventing and managing lifestyle-related health issues. The clinics offer comprehensive interventions designed to support individuals facing these challenges.

Additionally, the ‘Ayurkarma’ scheme, available through government-operated Ayurveda dispensaries, provides extensive Ayurvedic treatments, including Panchakarma, to economically disadvantaged individuals.

The National Programme for Prevention and Management of Osteoarthritis and Other Musculoskeletal Disorders is another vital public health initiative, targeting the prevention, control, and treatment of various musculoskeletal disorders, including osteoarthritis. The specialty clinic dedicated to joint and musculoskeletal disorders will leverage Ayurveda’s effectiveness in treating joint diseases, making these beneficial services accessible to the public.

Through these initiatives, Kerala is positioning itself as a leader in integrating traditional Ayurvedic practices with modern healthcare solutions, reinforcing its commitment to the health and well-being of its residents.
