Chittoor Collector Implements Strategic Measures to Combat TB

On March 11, 2024, District Collector Sumit Kumar emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) during an event organized by the Medical and Health Department in Chittoor. He stated that combating TB requires not only effective treatment but also strategic preventive measures.
During the program, the Collector distributed nutritional kits valued at ₹500 each to 100 TB patients. This initiative is part of a larger effort to support identified beneficiaries with similar assistance for an additional month, with plans to extend food support until March 2026. Kumar urged patients to take full advantage of available resources to aid in their recovery.
Important Symptoms and Treatment Options
In his address, Sumit Kumar detailed the symptoms of TB, which include persistent fever, chest pain, sudden health deterioration, swelling in any part of the body, weight loss, night sweats, fatigue, and coughing up blood. He stressed that these symptoms should not be ignored and that individuals experiencing them should seek referral to government hospitals.
The Collector reassured patients that excellent treatment options are available for TB and encouraged them not to worry. “Early detection and strict adherence to treatment are key to breaking the chain of transmission,” he stated, highlighting the importance of timely medical intervention.
Additionally, Kumar urged the public to utilize the State TB elimination helpline, Nikshay Sampark (1800-11-6666), a toll-free service designed to provide information and assistance related to TB.
Also present at the event were Joint Collector G. Vidyadhari, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. DT. Sudha Rani, along with senior program officers and paramedical staff. Their involvement underscores a collaborative effort to enhance TB management and prevention in the region.
This initiative reflects a growing commitment to addressing public health challenges and ensuring that patients receive the necessary support and information to combat tuberculosis effectively.
